Koloa Jewellery Seini Earrings (Tapa)

Koloa Jewellery is inspired by aspects of Tongan art that have a long history in Tongan culture.

The materials used are ngatu (mulberry cloth), known as tapa elsewhere in the Pacific and fala (fine, woven mats).

Seini earrings use white, unpainted cloth (ngatu is painted barkcloth in Tonga; tapa is the unpainted cloth). They show off the amazing fibres of the cloth that have been beaten over many months of collective work.

Our pieces are handmade. Each one is unique and intended to showcase the skill of Pacific artisans.

Any minor imperfections in the resin piece are part of the natural handmade process and add to the uniqueness.

These earrings are made from a ngatu that belonged to Seini’s sister, Nia. She gifted it to us because it was too damaged to continue to be gifted as koloa, malo 'aupito lahi.
