Our Story

Flaxbloom was created in response to the growing need for women to be able to buy fabulous, comfortable clothes, that are ethically made and in natural, breathable fabric.

The label began in late 2019 when Sue, the owner, and creator of Flaxbloom, realised that she wasn’t alone in looking for the sort of clothes that would take her anywhere, comfortably and stylishly.

She loves linen and looked seriously at manufacturing in Italy until she realised that much of the clothing made there is manufactured in Prato, in Northern Italy, in Chinese-run, Chinese-owned factories with very dubious safety records. She knew that she had to find better.

She found a team of women in Bali, led by an extraordinary woman running a small workshop built on family land. The women work in a well-lit, comfortable environment, get paid above-award wages, monthly bonuses, double time on Saturday, and all their medical care is paid for.

The design of the clothes is a collaborative venture between Sue and the workshop owner, who has worked for international clothing labels. All the linen is pre-washed and many of the colours are dyed to order, giving Sue the ability to curate a unique style.

Sue is inspired by the women she meets through Flaxbloom who, like her, lead busy, satisfying lives and want clothes to fit their lifestyles.
